This week something magical happened and I will be sharing more about it in the coming weeks. In the meantime, today I want to share one little thing I did today to preserve the memories of a very special day.

From a bountiful bouquet of flowers I got to work pressing the petals, stems and leaves once we got home from our St. Augustine getaway. I think I’ve only pressed flowers once or twice in my life time in a heavy book, but this time I got a legit flower press and made it happen.

There were left over flowers that wouldn’t fit in the press so I put together this sweet arrangement photographed here to keep the celebration going over the next week.

The flowers in the press will take 1-3 weeks to be fully dried out and ready to frame. I’ll document the process when the time comes.

Today, I am just basking in the glow of my Friday off at home before a lovely little weekend as we settle in for the fall season.

I have another floral project to work on this weekend – planting flower seeds: zinnias, celosias, and marigolds. I’ll plant them in starter pots then over the next few weeks transplant them into larger pots for our entryway and other outside spots.

And then, later on this month I am starting up the fall semester at school where I am taking a botany class, sure to keep me interested. All of this to say, I’m making floral keepsake-making my whole personality this season. I’m even considering writing a post on all the ways you can interact and portray flowers in a multitude of media.

My love of flowers runs deep. I took floral design courses back in NYC including at the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx. But I never considered the variety of ways you can incorporate floral projects into your creative practice.

But flower pressing, planting seeds and studying botany are wonderful ways to do just that. I am patiently waiting for this vibrant harvest season to bloom here in Florida as I step forward into this new chapter.
