This past weekend I started working on a project that has been a long time coming.
I painted my home office!
And when I say it’s been a long time coming I mean it.
The painting part in particular. You see I grew up in a log cabin so I wasn’t able to paint my bedroom and since I moved out of there at 18 I haven’t stayed anywhere long enough to make a project like this worthwhile. The only time I did paint any walls was when I was in shared living quarters (and didn’t have much of a say in the color scheme) + when we had to fix a bad paint job in our last apartment with plain old white paint.
This was the first time I really got to design the walls how I wanted them.
And I went all out with an accent wall and everything. At first I thought I wanted the whole room in vertical stripes like a wrapped gift box, but I thought that would be too much in such a small space. So I decided to just do one wall.
Here’s a peek >>
Yes – I went instead with horizontal strips and Yes – it’s white and gray but I am quite happy with the results. I’m a huge fan of gray (it’s my fave neutral) so that was the first decision I made.
It actually wan’t as daunting as I thought it would be + I’m really proud of mine (+ my hubby’s) work.
Here’s what I learned in the process:
1. Get the paint with the primer mixed in – cuts your time in half.
2. There is one thing you must have to make super straight lines – a laser level
3. You need one other thing to make sure those straight lines don’t get all smudgy when you’re painting – Frog Tape. (Not the blue stuff).*
(Here’s the tutorial I used to get this all sorted out)
Full Disclosure: I only got 3/4 of the stripes done myself, I needed a little help (and height) from my hubby to reach the top section. So don’t feel like you need to take a project like this on all by yourself, teamwork is a beautiful thing!
Have all of these things handled right, and you have a smash of a paint job – Simple as that.
Not bad for a newbie painter!
After we worked on my office we started on our living room in the darker gray, so follow me on instagram to see how that turns out.
For now though I want you to pick one office project you’ve been waiting to do for far too long + make a plan to get it done.
Then head over to our facebook group to share what it is. In there you will find a set of challenges to help you get started.
Right now I’m posting a new challenge each week but only for a limited time because I have plans to expand these into my first e-product come September.
Join in the fun now and use this summer season to complete your office reboot with a bang!
